French Toast Homemade Waffle Recipe
If you are looking for easy breakfast recipes you can make with your waffle iron, this is one of the best. This is actually simpler to prepare than pancakes but does require a waffle maker.
This is a fantastic waffle recipe that is very simple to prepare and will become an instant hit with your family. It combines a French toast recipe, Texas toast or any thick sliced bread you have available and a hot waffle iron. If you are looking real waffles then here are plenty of ordinary waffle recipes.
It is a favorite recipe of our family’s and was inspired by a great-uncle many year’s ago. It has become a Sunday morning breakfast tradition when our family gets together and makes an excellent breakfast on a chilly morning.
Ingredients you will need:
4 – eggs beaten well
4 – tablespoons of melted butter
1/2 - teaspoon of vanilla
1/2 - cup of milk
1/2 - teaspoon cinnamon
8 slices of Texas toast or your favorite thick sliced bread
(If you are preparing breakfast for a large group simply double the recipe).
Instructions
1. Combine your eggs, melted butter, vanilla, milk, and cinnamon in a large shallow bowl and mix well.
2. Preheat your waffle iron.
3. Spray your waffle iron grids with a no stick cooking spray.
4. Dip enough slices of Texas toast in the egg mixture to cover the grids of your waffle iron. If your waffle iron has four grids, use four slices. If it has two grids, use two slices.
5. Place your egg-dipped bread on your hot waffle iron grids and close the cover.
6. Cook your Texas toast in your hot waffle iron until it is golden brown.
7. Your Texas toast does not need to cook as long as normal waffles do, so be sure to watch your bread closely so it does not get over brown.
8. Repeat the process until all your egg mixture is used.
9. Serve your French toast waffles with your favorite toppings.
If you wish, you can sprinkle the cinnamon on your grilled waffles instead of mixing it into your egg mixture. It becomes more evenly distributed this way. You can make this recipe your own by adding your favorite spices to the egg mixture. Try a dash of nutmeg or lemon zest. If you are preparing this breakfast around the holidays, you might want to try using eggnog instead of milk in your recipe.
French toast waffles are delicious when served with maple syrup, your favorite fruit or traditional bacon, sausage or eggs. Serve it your way and enjoy!
